The only reason the Libs left a surplus is because they sold off assets. The underlying health of the economy throughout John Howard's reigh was questionable. Oh...and a bit of luck with the resources boom.
If people think Telstra will be better off under a coalition, have a look at the TLS chart while John Howard was PM.
