voltaire....yep, you're probably looking in the right place. it was a higher low.....and as you know that is what i'm anticipating. i think the trendline from the 2003 low will probably hold.

however, given the present condition of financials, i won't be horrified if it doesn't and then i guess, 4780 on the xjo becomes likely.

the current set up of my moving averages on the daily/weekly suggest that the downtrend into 22/1 low and the recent consolidation pattern more similar the conditions of 1998, which would allow for some sort of rally into 2009/10.......but if we see 4780, then i can't see how that could be the final low as the downtrend would then be more like to early stages of the bear from the 2000 top.
