V australia may act as a low cost carrier but it's fares from Dec 15th launch through march are running SYD-LAX return $2000AUD. This is not low budget cheap. (Compare it to Air Aisa's Gold Coast- KL route consisently selling fares for $199 inc) United and QAN are the only other direct flights and are marginally more. I would imagine most customers would pay an extra hundred or so to retain mileagle on this route. You can still connect in AKL,NAN etc on the SYD-stop-LAX route and pay less. I don't see V australia taking off as planned unless they significantly drop their price point- which they can't afford to do.
