The dow has done this many times in the past. The only reason people are calling this as something different comes down to sheer panic, rumours, vested interests and greed. Look at the dow charts just over the last year and see just how many times the dow fell by 500 points or more. Each time coming back stronger. This is just another one of those cycles and panic selling will stop, confidence (greed) will return. I really believe this is the end of the panic selling and off she goes until next lot of panic selling comes along. I don't see this as a crash. Perhaps January February or even October 2006 but not now.
This is just my opinion based on my personal observations. If I am proven wrong then I will gladly eat humble pie.
