Australia-based Far Ltd said arbitration over pre-emption rights in the Rufisque-Sangomar-Sangomar Deep (RSSD) block off Senegal may take “in the order of 12 months to reach a determination”, at which point the company would decide how to react.

RSSD is prolific oil and gas acreage and hosts the 500-million-barrel-plus SNE's discovery, operated by Cairn Energy.

Far said proceedings were instigated at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris in June to resolve a dispute under the RSSD Joint Operating Agreement, that resulted from the sale of ConocoPhillips’ 35% equity stake to Woodside Energy.

Woodside has said that the ongoing dispute has prevented it moving to take over operatorship of the shelf edge blocks.

Far currently enjoys a 15% stake in RSSD acreage.

In Gambia's deep-water blocks A2 and A5, Far acquired an 80% operating stake from Houston-based Erin Energy. A programme of 3D seismic reprocessing and interpretation is planned before the end of the year.
