Yes the black rhino is good for ultra deep water wells I'm not sure the Athena is, that doesn't matter to us but I would have thought that alone would mean it would be a more expensive piece of kit to hire. Not sure if the black rhino is a dual Derrick drill ship or not and whether that's essential to our operations?
I cant really compare them right now but maybe JP can clear up some of the confusion, advantages disadvantages and essentials for our operations?
They are both 6th generation drill ships so they must be in some ways comparable and high tech. There are seventh generation rigs being built by the black rhino (diamond drilling company maybe) guys costing $685M a piece. It begs the questions how much it would be to buy a sixth generation rig outright, maybe half of that in today's environment, as a more cost effective measure going forward.
