    Are you a trader in the eyes of the ATO?
    Do you have a private ruling?

    If no then if you sell your shares in other companies and buy FAR at a loss then yes you can claim a capital loss.

    BUT, capital losses are only offset by capital gains. You cannot claim the capital loss against your salary and wage or business income.

    If you were a share trader then that is another story.
