Well looks like the 3.5 tonne towing capacity won't take too long to hunt down. The legendary 70 series landcruiser has been basically untouchable as the light vehicle of choice in Australian mining over the last two decades..hiluxs, tritons etc etc just don't have the power and eventually get shook to death.
The zero emission landcruiser is/has been developed by a couple of companies albeit not directly by Toyota ; Landcruiser with 1HZ diesel engine cannot meet the Euro 5(Euro 6 next year) or Tier 4 emission standards. Health safety and clean air are a big part of the challenges faced in underground mining and for this it is obvious that the days are just about over for the diesel powered Landcruiser. Toyota upgraded the 70 series late last year with the only changes being a $7-10k price hike to cover some engine modifications to help squeeze it through tightening emission standards which will be shortly bridge too far for the 4.5 V8 cruiser. Toyota made no other visual changes (apart from a slightly larger bonnet scoup) to to latest model ..its absolutely identical to the last which, was last changed in 2007... sounds like Toyota know that it's near lights out for the diesel cruiser.
Others developing the cruiser to meet rapidly closing in higher emission requirements..don't think it will be too long before Toyota starts pumping out EV cruisers
