Kevin Rudd announced in 2009 that by 2012 everyone household in Australia would have a smart meter, however, he forgot that smart meters are in the order of $600-$700 each, so most new installations and houses wanting solar are getting new smart meters at the house holders expense. Their are still many old disk type meters which like me who don't think I should have to pay the cost of a smart meter. It is in the interest of the regulator to have everyone on smart meters to encourage people to use their household electricity demand at off peak times, however, us little fish have no real impact so it may be like this for a while.
