The world's farmers continue to borrow like there is no tomorrow.
------------------------------------------------------- Farm spending up $1 billion in Wisconsin August 21, 2009
The amount of money Wisconsin farmers spent on their operations last year increased more than a billion dollars, according to a report from the Wisconsin field office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The state's farmers spent $9.40 billion last year, up from $8.38 billion in 2007.
Increases were almost across the board, with only a few areas holding steady or declining.
The largest increases were seen in "machinery other than tractors and self-propelled machinery," with a 38 percent increase, and "seeds and plants," which was up about 35 percent from last year. Tractors and self-propelled farm machinery showed a 31 percent increase, the report said.
