A couple of interesting Pieces that I pulled out of Fridays Financial Review on BHP and there petrolium unit.
There is more to it, not a bad read if you can get your hands on a copy.

Page 47 "BHP,s petrolium unit is expected to receive about $US15b in growth funding over the next five years".

Also page 47
"There has been speculation BHP could build its buisness through small or large-scale acquisitions. Mr Kloppers told London analysts he wouldn,t rule anything out".

Sounds like they are assessing all prospects large and small very closely, plenty to spend ,maybe a little will go Ottos way.
