Not sure of the exact figures but when the US did something similar (i.e. dropped tax rates but disallowed deductions) they ended up with a lot more tax revenue. This is a much fairer and simpler system. Aside from putting accountants out of business it would also mean a large reduction in ATO staff so probably why it won't happen.
