I have always thought a flat tax is a good idea but it needs to be tied up with an end to deductions and avoidance schemes.
At present the wealthy theoretically pay high tax but in reality there are many ways to avoid paying a lot of it and the tax burden falls on middle income earners.
The poor do not pay much,if any, tax.
I would suggest the first $20,000 be tax free and from then on a flat 20% tax rate. No more deductions for anything at all. Your gross income is your taxable income.
Watch the super rich squirm then, but a great relief to nearly everyone else.
