Most people that use this phrase on HC use it incorrectly. From what I can work out most of them don't have a clue what the efficient market hypothesis is.

FWIW I dont think the theory accounts for non-company related information very well. As a consequence, the market is right in terms of what the price currently is but it surely doesn't explain why.

The other thing to consider is that even the people who agree with the theory also agree that it doesn't account for future uncertainty.

So from a speculators point of view the entire theory isn't worth much IMHO.

TL;DR The theory might work for traders but not speculators or investors.
