The thing that is beginning to appeal to many is that Tony Abbott speaks and thinks the way most of us do.
My first thoughts were when I read of the attack, why was this kid walking the streets of Kings Cross alone at 2am?

There is no way even at a stretch it could be construed that Tony Abbott considers victims of crime bringing it upon them selves by their actions. Tony Abbott would be the first to visit such a family in person with his condolences.
Only the twisted minds of individuals looking to gain political points would see it that way.

Mr Kelly told Fairfax Media that Mr Abbott's comments were clumsy, but nonetheless upsetting and "offensive" to the 30,000 innocent people who were entitled to enjoy themselves by going to Sydney nightspots like Kings Cross each Friday and Saturday night

Utter codswallop, upsetting and offensive, people are entitled to do what ever they like to enjoy themselves, and I am sure none of these people are offended or upset by Tony's comment. There are some loons out there that will lash out and punch someone for the hell of it, and that will always be a risk you take when you go to areas known for some violence.

"I just think that if he's talking about it, it's clear there's an issue, and he should acknowledge it by pledging to help clean up Sydney's streets if he is elected prime minister," Mr Kelly said.

"And it's not just Sydney's streets - it's Byron Bay, Parramatta, Darlinghurst - what is he going to do to fix it exactly? People are meant to be able to walk down the streets safely at night, and it's offensive to suggest anything else."

Give me a break...isn't all that a state issue? What's Tony Abbott going to do to "make the streets safe"? Use taxpayer's money to pay a task force to walk around every known street in the country between 8pm and 4am in case there is a nutcase on the loose?
The states are constantly telling the Feds to back off and leave them alone.
People Have to be responsible for themselves, what do they want...a Police state where they can't go out at night without a permit?

Yes, it is very sad for the young bloke and his family, but it IS NOT a political issue...
