she was given the 3rd spot on the ticket.... the one that usually fails to get elected..
I don't know if she campaigned but its possible she gained extra votes due to her religion....
why would any party NOT pick another Muslim? there are 3 Muslims in the Labor mob: one among the Libs. they are trying to be inclusive of all our multicultural community. thats laudable imo.
but the very fact that they take in token candidates and not accept the differences that comes with diversity means they might be less open at the next election.
this is the fault of Parties though. she would be well accepted in an independent parliament.
