Morning fatsoh,
I would not disagree but would like to shoot a couple of thoughts (straight from the rear end) and get your thoughts on them.
"gold (and silver) securities, on the other hand don't seem to have the outstanding runs like other commodities, even tho' gold has outperformed just about everything else for nigh on a decade"
re. "other commodities tend to have a pretty good run when the are the 'flavour of the month' - iron ore, then uranium etc
fatsoh's conclusion from extensive research (lol) is that gold is not treated by the market as just another commodity"
This might be true (I suspect it is) - but could you not put a few more in this basket as well - and not just commodities
eg. diamonds, bio techs, it startups, nickel and probably uranium lately.
I am having difficulty getting into words what is in my head, so please bear with me.
What I am thinking from what you said makes sense - but is it not to do with a lot of ?true speccies being in these areas?
Eg. - in Australia you find a lot of listed goldies are home in Perth WA - pretty obvious why. But also you find that a lot of little failed goldies transform into bio tech's when the gold fizzes - also they do a vice versa when times change. I don't think this is just a method of cheap backdoor entry to a listed entity, not from the number of them anyway.
Is this correct?
Now if it is correct where does that leave us with gold companies that are the real deal - ie. companies who have full intention of becoming gold producers?
What about the performance of companies like try, aam, fml, and larger performers lgl,ncm
In other words I guess - would the effect you are talking about be because gold (and bio techs etc) draw out of the woodwork a lot of conmen and scammers and maybe the market knows this and just won't touch a lot of them with a barge pole - even when their sectors should be running hot??
However, the same market will reward companies who begin to perform.
Your thoughts please.
Have a good day Pinto
