I saw The Living End play a gig as "The Long Necks" at the Northcote Club Hotel in July 2005. All 17 song played that night were completely new. They apparently wanted to try out their demos live before going into the recording studio.
It was a weird gig because the crowd had to listen to the music. I loved it because it was so fresh, but a lot of the punters were confused.
I have since developed a theory that audiences don't listen to the music at concerts. They hear the openning bars and play the songs in their heads. I don't think they realise our poor some of the performances of their favourite bands are.
