Hi markco2 .. yes it is true .. leather used in a cricket ball is from a pig (as above) and of course Muslims won't go anywhere near pig or pig-meat(pork) on religious grounds.
In fact, there has been activism from time to time by Vegans to have various sporting balls made from non-animal products.
