Joining me in today’s episode (34) of “Let’s talk robotics” is Mark Pivac. Mark is the Executive Director & Chief Technical Officer and also the primary inventor of FBR's automated bricklaying technology. He is an aeronautical and mechanical engineer with over 25 years' experience working on the development of high technology equipment ranging from lightweight aircraft to heavy off-road equipment. He has 20 years' experience working with pro/engineer 3D CAD software as well as high-level mathematics, including matrix mathematics, robot transformations and vector mathematics for machine motion. Mark has also worked extensively with design, commissioning and fault finding on servo controlled motion systems achieving very high dynamic performance.Today we chat about:His background in aeronautical and mechanical engineering, how did that lead him to the field of Robotics? How was FBR® started and what came first, the technology or the application? What is Hadrian X® and how does it work?Despite COVID setbacks in 2020, FBR® was able to prove its technology in the real world through three building projects last year – residential display home, commercial community centre and a two storey test structure for international partners What has the response been like to Hadrian X® with regards to builders, developers and manufactures? Will it be a catalyst for the adoption of broader robotic construction? How has the robotic construction landscape developed since the project first started? What is next for FBR®? Are you looking into development of other robots that will take on different aspects of construction? How has FBR® created career opportunities for people in the field of Engineering and Robotics in Australia? With a population increase, a shortage of workers and a lack of housing, how will FBR® address global needs? What is something you have learnt over the journey?
