Generally speaking the board of directors (BOD) are paid for business strategy and assignment of CEO. CEO is responsible for operations under direction of board. Mike has been the face, lukely he was positioned above his experience (happens to us all its how we progress). This doesn't mean the business failure was his.
The BOD should be held accountable not Mike. Now they have put Mark in the CEO position with no experience. It is the BOD who should be assigning the right people and responcibke for the end result not Mike or Mark.
I think Mark may be in well above his head but has no choice in a last attempt to make his lifes most significant piece of work successful. I also wouldn't be suprised if Mike stepped down to give his cousin this last chance.
The BOD are responsible. They have made another wrong decision that may see a technological genuies suffer the fate of failure under their command. A bitter taste to the final chapter to the man with the brains at the cost of a gamble from those hidden in the seats of power.
