My mum also worked at a telephone exchange connecting calls, and then the exchange was automated. I had a milk run, then someone invented cartoned milk and all the bottled milk vendors went out of business. Having both lost our jobs, we remained unemployed and lived on stale bread and cartoned milk for the next 20 years. Two of the previous sentences are true.
