More on the National Robotics Strategy..
Robotics Australia Group welcomes the release this morning of Australia's first National Robotics Strategy by Minister for Industry and Science, Ed Husic. The strategy aims to scale-up the country's robotics and automation capabilities and is aligned with the Robotics Growth Partnership between Robotics Australia Group,AiGroup and Cicada Innovations also announced today.
According to the Minister, “robotics and automation are critical to building a Future Made in Australia. Lifting the adoption of these technologies will allow our manufacturers to produce higher quality products in less time and make them more internationally competitive.”
Thanks to our robotics community, there were more than 100 submissions made during the consultation phase that went into developing the strategy. The push for a national strategy began with the development of Australia's robotics roadmaps, and advocacy by Robotics Australia Group. Board Chair, Dr Sue Keay, was one of the advisory committee to the Departmentof Industry, Science and Resources during the development of the strategy.
While no specific funded initiatives are attached to the release of the strategy, like the National Quantum Strategy launched last year, the existence of a strategy now makes it easier for the Department to approach Treasury for funding. As with Quantum, we can hope that this will result in some good news in thefuture. Meanwhile the government has committed to making investments towards robotics from the National Reconstruction Fund, the Industry Growth Program, the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator (ASCA) and Clean Energy via Future Made in Australia, to encourage growth of a local robotics and automation industry to rival Germany and Japan.
Our Board Chair, Sue Keay, will be over in Japan next week linking in with the Japanese robotics ecosystem and getting a sense of what that might look like.
Robotics Australia Group will continue to advocate on behalf of Australia's robotics ecosystem and make sure that the promise of our first national strategy is realised. Thank you all for contributing. In the meantime we will work with AiGroup and Cicada Innovations to do what we can to support the growth and development of both robotics and robotics technology companies and the companies that adopt robotics and automation.
Warm regards,
Nicci Rossouw
