If you are suggesting that the GE Healthcare product has gazumped the EchoIQ product then from what I read in the article that gdavs provided I disagree with you. From that article: "Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized marketing of software to assist medical professionals in the acquisition of cardiac ultrasound, or echocardiography, images. The software, called Caption Guidance, is an accessory to compatible diagnostic ultrasound systems and uses artificial intelligence to help the user capture images of a patient’s heart that are of acceptable diagnostic quality."
As far as I can tell that is not what the EchoIQ product does. Rather, my near-totally-ignorant understanding is that EchoSolve takes the images as they are and checks them against over 100 points of differentiation that identifies whether there is a problem with one of the heart valves at least 15% more accurately than specialists. With the GE Healthcare product the specialists are still limiting themselves to the same 6 or 7 points of differentiation they typically use in their interpretation, the only improvement is that they can see those same 6 or 7 points of differentiation more clearly. (I just made up "points of differentiation" because I cannot remember the term that EchoIQ uses - see, dumb as duck droppings). Or have I got this all wrong?
If anything, the FDA approving this GE Healthcare product that uses AI is likely to be a good omen for EchoIQ in that the FDA is not against AI boosting humans in analysing echocardiograms. Less likely to be a Galileo moment for the introduction of AI into cardiology.
In the most recent webinar, from 12 September, at 22:30 the question was asked of Deon Strydom (EchoIQ's Chief Commercial Officer) and Prof Strange (Chief Research Officer) regarding competition. From about 24:31 DS addressed competitors head-on by saying that there were 2 or 3 "competitors" using AI to clean up the images but only EchoID is automating the interpretation of those images. Clearly, Caption Guidance was one of the "competitors" that he was referring to.
