Orphan drug status gives a company exclusive marketing rights for a seven-year period, along with other benefits to recoup the costs of researching and developing drugs to treat rare diseases.I don't think the FDA gives the companies warning when this is announced.
As a result, companies usually take about a half-day to a day to put out their confirmation of the news. I'd expect something from the company in the next 24 hours or so.
