The universal experience for a meditator is, from the moment they sit they will start thinking about something else
not so. not for all
Not my technique ... it is a recognized Theravada practice.
not so. you are posting your personal interpretation of something. also, "Theravada" does not necessarily represent what Buddha taught. "Theravada" is a sect. its meditation instructions are often 'hatha yoga' rather than non-craving-non-attachment
Buddha summarised his entire teaching in one sentence, namely: "nothing whatsoever should be clung to"
when practising 'mindfulness' according to Buddha, it means the mind always remembers to not attach/cling to anything
the mindful mind is continually in a state of letting go
thus, Buddha gave the following advise about how to die, mindfully:
"Sensing a feeling of pleasure, one discerns that it is fleeting, not grasped at, not relished. Sensing a feeling of pain... Sensing a feeling of neither pleasure nor pain, one discerns that it is fleeting, not grasped at, not relished. Sensing a feeling of pleasure, one senses it disjoined from it. Sensing a feeling of pain... Sensing a feeling of neither pleasure nor pain, one senses it disjoined from it. When sensing a feeling limited to the body, one discerns that 'I am sensing a feeling limited to the body.' When sensing a feeling limited to life, one discerns that 'I am sensing a feeling limited to life.' One discerns that 'With the break-up of the body, with the termination of life, all that is sensed, not being relished [clung to], will grow cold right here.'

therefore, according to Buddha, Yoga is unmindfulness when breathing because the Yogi believes: "I am breathing; my true self is breathing"
where as Buddha sees with reality: "a physical body is breathing; a physical body with mind, is ending, passing away, coming to the end of its (rather than "my") life
