Most people have minimal understanding of how difficult it is to find a reasonably acceptable, definitive way of ending one's own life. You suggest starvation. This can take many weeks, obviously less time if no fluids are taken and everything I've ever read about it suggests it would be very unpleasant and uncomfortable.

Driving people to find ways of ending their own lives should be avoided. I knew a person who while doing military training was diagnosed with a form of cancer that gave him a very short life expectency. He requested that his life be humanely ended when he reached the stage at which he could do little for himself. This request was refused. He tried to take his life with a military assault rifle that could kill an elephant and in spite of being trained to use the weapon botched his attempt and blew half his face away without killing himself.
