Many years ago an ex-police friend of mine told me about this sort of thing... people sometimes choose to kill themselves using a shotgun. At the very, very ,very last moment they change their mind .... just after they have pulled the trigger. They pull the gun away while the charge is racing up the barrel.

It was common enough ... people blowing their nose off, that the police had a nickname for it ... which fortunately I have never been able to remember what it is.
