    Yet another flight had a lucky escape thanks to a skilful pilot, whose Boeing 767 ran out of fuel in mid-air 12,500 metres above Canada because tank fillers had confused litres with gallons.

    Actually, they filled it pounds instead of kilos and that pilot was one hell of a jockey. He has flown gliders and learnt to lose altitude by sideslipping but it is not a technique taught to jet jockeys. He landed it on a disused airstrip turned into a drag-strip where they had just finished their runs for the day but were still all there, complete with fire extinguishers which weren't needed. One boy was riding a bike and tried to outpedal the aircraft but fortunately it stopped in time.

    So much could have gone wrong!
