what the real lesson is from this sort of thing is the almost complete reliance on coal and iron for Oz to survive.
It's it ballknockingly obvious that we need some developed industries and more streams of national income?
So ridiculous to have so much of our national income depending on coal, iron, gas, agriculture etc
these are third world industries
we back this up by building houses for a completely fake internal ponzy housing scheme
how about some higher tech - developed technologies etc.
and, forget the dirty manufacturing --- invent, develop, innovate - licence the hell out of things and get the royalties --- it's actually what we are good at - and, the very thing we cut the roots out from - education, research and development
