Regarding the GST - yes, absolutely. It would have been a cleaner bill, encompassing everything.
We ended up with a compromise. One day we might need to increase it - good luck to whoever is in power at the time - they will have buckleys chance.
My point isn't about specific legislation, it's about the principal of electing a government to govern. If we don't like them un-elect them. Don't give them power in the LA and then hand some sort of control over the process to the likes of nutters like Fielding, Harradine, Brown etc who get elected to the senate with 1 to 2% of the vote (or similar)
