As we speak, Australia has 24 coal power stations all of which will go offline in the next 30 years (before 2050) and which produce in the order of 30,000MW.
In normal times Australia has one of the largest population growth numbers in the world all of which want increasing amounts of electricity.
Gas fired power make sense as a peak base load transitional energy source generating 60% less carbon emissions than coal (particularly brown coal).
Is true that gas energy generation dropped in 2020 as renewables increased due to capital cost but is false assumption to think renewables alone can replace coal as aging power stations switch off.

Just think about electric cars .. supply down over the next 30 years and demand up.

"...The average electric vehicle requires 30 kilowatt-hours to travel 100 miles — the same amount of electricity an average American home uses each day to run appliances, computers, lights and heating and air conditioning..."
"...A U.S. Department of Energy study found that increased electrification across all sectors of the economy could boost national consumption by as much as 38% by 2050, in large part because of electric vehicles... "

And here in AUS we are having a bitch-fight over a 660 MW gas fired power station .. WTF !!
