Ignoring the idiomatic assertion, If accountability and scrutiny existed, whatever label you want to attach to mendacious behaviour would be severely curtailed if not abolished. That can only be good for the national interest. The partisan defence is akin to "raising the white flag" to avoid debate rather than resolve the matter. An independent body would act without bias.
