I know the conservationists (greenies) are very active throughout NZ, especially the Buller and Westcost regions, which encompass Reefton.

I've been aware of what's been happening there and have close connections on the ground floor, on both sides of the fence. Given the dire circumstances, New Zealand's economy is suffering, especially in this area, which was once predominantly a coal mining region. Pike River wasn't too far from here—100 km. And many other mines have closed down in recent yrs. And the region has suffered apart from tourism. Therefore, its my belief the plant will be built and this project will go ahead. On another note, there's uranium in the area, which has had limited exploration.
