But to answer the question, I have a tendency to think that the ball speed he generates, does not quite match some of the opposition.

Less face it, technology has created a faster tempo in matches, with the faster ball speed and spin. To me Federer allows the opposition a little extra time.

In watching the Djoker the other night, his speed around the court was amazing, but was still beaten.
I think Roger has to come out at a couple of levels of tempo higher than he usually starts.
Having said that, I think Roger has his eye on the trophy.
