Regarding the trend for the number of stores*, there may be an interesting proxy : the number of retail trade business in operations.
According to Statista (and ABS), this number has decreased during the last 2 fiscal years (while regularly increasing between FY 17 and FY 22) : - 0.2 % both in FY 23 and FY 24.
