Another way to look at retail is to follow major shopping center operators (Scenter and Vicinity). Last update for these 2 companies was quite positive : Scenter indicating, in particular, that frequentation in its malls has increased by 2 % so far in 24 (at Sept 24). One explanation given for this trend is the lack of new supply for major shopping centers. The chairman of Vicinity indicated during its last AGM that he expects Australian retail property to be supported, in the longer term, by population growth and a limited investment in new retail supply.
