mmmmmm - the things humans do
I've been in a few gold mines - none quite that deep - or anywhere near that deep but they are nonetheless weird places to be. In indonesia it was steamy hot - and there had been a few rock falls. there is a lot of superstition around that and stress levels are high as they work in constant fear of another rock fall. i felt, when i talked to the locals that no one had every really listened to those fears and anxieties. mind you I didn't think anyone had really ever listened to them. it took a while to build trust but once they could see that you were actually interested a lot came tumbling out. i just couldn't cope with the ethics of the owners. people were expendable and i can't work that way.

south africans too have an interesting way of working with people..... enough of that....
