and I totally agree with you - but I will refrain from giving away too much (haha - is there anything left to tell??)

re people trying to marry you off: this has happened to me for years, I am now in the state with my former compatriots that I rarely see them because they are mostly still in couples,

but the main subject of conversation is: how do we still look, what's hurting, what operation has so-and-so gone through and I still get criticised every time or given 'advice' for the most ridiculous things - last Saturday was such an occasion - with the result that they feel good and I feel bad -
what is it that makes stupid people go through life spraying their opinions all over like cat's vomit?

There are a lot of stupid people about - don't let it (them) bother you. (this will probably get modded, too!)

and remembering and warning 'not only Aussies steal' things from public places:

I was hosted by two young men in Austria (as a 'thankyou' because I looked after them here) and when it came to paying the bill the change was returned in a beautifully embroidered handshoe-type cloth - a washer (in Austrian 'Waschel' - washer), - the boys 'nicked it' and then presented it to me - so I have hung out in the bathroom, but no-one ever used it. I finished up using it as a wash cloth in the end. It's pretty mangled now - I also have a cross stitch embroidered rumanian hand towel in my wardrobe which i never hang out, also, because people don't use it

Those boys were naughty to nick that beautiful cloth, especially as you were being hosted by them and would have been embarrassed if they'd been caught out.

My father died when I was 18 years of age and I, soon afterwards worked a doily to its completion. I still have it, and use it to stand a pot plant on in the main room. It's modern in design, despite its age, and looks new.

But for many, many years the sight of it gave me a lot of pain...... he went to golf with his mates one Saturday and they came to the door, holding his jacket..... we never saw him again. Died on the last hole of the game....
