mmm but it’s a personal taste thing. I have some super wines but part of the deal is knowing who will appreciate what. You don’t like Pinot noir but it is regarded as the sign of a good wine maker. Anyone can make a Shiraz but to get complexity and taste for a Pinot requires skill. Trouble is people going buying cheap Pinot without knowing what they are doing and then wonder what the fuss is. riesling is another which has been simplified and misunderstood. Terroir matters for riesling - maybe more than some other wines.
as for choosing wine I think one has to be adventurous first - otherwise one sticks to the same old. secondly one has to be methodical or it’s impossible to remember what one really likes. I’m the first but not the second. The last secret is to have restraint. Aging helps many wines.
