not really beating myself up because I reckon we all, from time to time, say and write things we regret or don’t intend or they are not sufficiently sensitive to others. But I mostly pass over them when it happens. Issues around family violence and ascribing blame is however one of the subjects on which I promised myself I would not stay silent. I know there are two sides to every story but we often do not know what goes on behind closed doors. not really ever.
I worked briefly in an organisation that dealt with family violence matters and listened in to calls from men who had been forced to band contact because of a police order. It’s harrowing to listen to their self justification and style.
