because
- getting in to universities in their own country is frightfully competitive
- there is prestige in parents being able to say their child is studying overseas
- studying away from the oppressive attention of the parents is sought after
- it is easier to learn a language through immersion (which is funny because they often don’t break out of their language peers)
- for the same reason as australians might study in the USA or ok
- because a subject is taught here they can’t get at home
- because it is a pathway to permanent residence
- Because it is a chance to meet someone out of the watchful eye of parents. My own daughter in law never wanted to marry a Chinese man with all tte restrictions and awful social expectations that involved.
