@diligent - do you know what this tastes like? I find it wonderful, but it's not to everybody's liking.
I can give you the recipe for the filling, but you need to have a way to grind the poppy seeds to a pulp. I have an old-fashioned hand mill and also an electric herb grinder. The electric one is easy, but you need to have several goes and keep turning the contents around.
My grandmother had a huge mortar and pestle in which the seeds simply became mash - which isn't desirable either if you wish to include it in baked goods.
Will make one this weekend - and a chocolate cake - hmmm, have to find time . . . .
