Read a book on the early life of settlers in Australia. Thick book, binding torn and pages falling out. Should have offered to buy it. Not sure of all the contributing authors but some were anonymous - I gathered most material were from letters, etc.
Remembering reading about one woman and how she slept with her kids on the wooden table for fear of snakes entering through cracks in the stone walls. All dwelling built by unskilled builders, dwellings slightly on a lean. I guess no one had the heart to tell her snakes could climb up onto the table. There she would wait for her husband to return after seeking work, if he ever did return.
Hard life for sure.
