@NoBoDe This winter/spring I am actually going to do something about my lawn. I initially just dedicated a small section of that open space I have out the back (surrounded by trees and bushes) to lawn - cleared it with the help of s.i.l. put some good soil on and planted an entirely new lawn, which is slow-growing, hence not much cutting is needed - it was a special variety of lawn - from memory 'Zoysia' and I also bought some native lawn seeds, which I spread around the back area - that grass also does not grow tall nor fast - I had to travel miles to get those seeds - found a place in Osborne Park. Now I no longer need to worry about that grass, it has self-seeded and spread.
But I still have couch grass over the septic tank and it grows and grows - yesterday I managed to cut it all off with a handy little gadget I purchased recently. They are trimming shears - the shorter variety - but you use them like mini-scythes - took me 2 hours though and the 'lawn' cuttings filled my green bin.
This grass will come out this year - I have already warned my itinerant and not always willing gardener - he has lots of ladies 'to service' - haha - but essentially is a volunteer and gives all the money earned by gardening to charities. He is a confessing Christian.
This gadget might help YOU too with your tall grass:
Cordless Hedge/Grass Trimmer, 7.2 Lithium battery (you pre-charge, so no cord trailing around) brand: Ozito
cost around $70 from Bunnings.
Go well
