@thenetwork - I would not have a cat or any animal that close to a baby or small child - they do go places you do not know about - even in the house - and germs etc. transfer to children - scratching is another danger, even though cats are gentle creatures, when treated right. I remember our Italian friends (farmers) kids always had cats and the two youngest childen came out in skin rashes caught from the cats. Cats were not looked after properly - must be said too.
I/We did have a cat when our first child was born, but the interaction really only started when said child began walking, playing, then the cat was a wonderful toy, but was mostly trying to get away from her.
Sometimes I despair of humans - we do no do justice to our big God-given brain.
