Aw I understand, but the Herdwicks are such beautiful sheep. Like most though, they are bred for the conditions in which they were bred.
I have good friend, who was brought up on a croft on The Isle of Lewes in The Outer Hebrides.
Her parents were of a dying breed. They totally lived off the land. Her Dad weaved Harris Tweed from their sheep. They dug up peat for their fires in winter.
She was very embarrassed when her friends visited as they lived off mutton and quite often there was a sheeps head, complete with eyes simmering away on the stove lol.
They also fished a lot and lived on neaps and patties (potatoes and turnips) a very simple, frugal life.
They did own an old car, but only brought it out on Sundays for the Kirk (church)
I adored listening to her stories
