All those white hairy threads throughout this wool are, indeed, characteristic of Herdwick. Over time these white hairs work their way out of the wool. In the meantime, these white threads are like coarse wire. These sheep are built for the cold mountains and lakes. They are not wearing coats of softness, that is for sure. Patons used to process this wool but there are very very few skeins of this left in Australia, and those which are, are closely guarded by their owners.
I am known by the women in the craft class as being obsessed by Herdwick, lol. I have googled Herdwick and some websites are very familiar. I asked for samples of their wool and I got them to kindly send them to me. They were definitely unusable.
