We had brilliant food at our school canteens.

First school I went to (high school) had the most brilliant hot dogs.

10 cents I think, would happily pay $10 to get one that good now.

Next school, 2nd year, had cheese, lettuce, devon and tomato rolls.

Maybe 20 cents, can't remember.

Cheese and devon were cut into long square 'logs',

on a long bun. I could live on them !

Used to go to the bakery on the way to catch the train home,

corned beef and tomato on a round roll with sesame seeds. Beautiful.

We walked everywhere, were all skinny, and several times a week

would go for an 8/10 km walk in the bush, after school.
