I once had a very smelly bag of raw fleece. Apparently came from a ram. I once bought several bags of raw fleece, expecting that my passion for carding, spinning, dyeing would mean no more need to visit Carlton the location of the outlet for raw fleece targeted to spinners only. Clean fleece was expensive and the reputation of particular growers meant a rush when her fleeces arrived in the shop. Jacketed sheep are clean. Their fleeces carry a premium. The lower the micron count, the more expensive the fleece. Human hair is about 100 micron but fine wool is between 17 and 20 micron.
Reckon Tassie would be a good place to find quality fleece.....isn't it the home of creative, arty people?
